Knowledge is the most important tool for healthy hair. Regardless of what type of hair you have, it's always a good idea to educate yourself on potential damage factors so you can take action before things get out of hand. Do you have 4C hair and are you interested in knowing how to maintain, grow and care for it? This post is for you!
1. Conditioning
To maintain, grow and care for your 4C hair, you need to use the right conditioners to complement your curly hair type. It's important to use conditioning products tailored to your hair's specific needs because there are now so many different textures and oils that are often tailored to specific hair conditions (for example, drier or oilier roots along with frizzy ends). You may want to use a light conditioner at the roots and a heavier oil conditioner at the ends to minimize frizz such as black castor oil.
2. Manageability
Your hair has a rough texture and tends to curl. One way to maintain manageability is to occasionally use a hot oil treatment on your hair or conditioner with shea butter. Natural beeswax can also help give you silky and manageable 4C hair. You may also consider wearing a satin scarf or bonnet over your head while you sleep.
3. Rinse Untangle
Rinse conditioner is necessary to detangle 4C hair. Without a proper aftercare routine, it will be very difficult to style and maintain natural hair. You should start by thoroughly rinsing the conditioner out of your hair with water. While you're doing this, make sure you don't rub your roots hard or use soapy water because this will damage your curls and cause them to break.
4. Resting your hair
Always take time to rest your hair at the end of the day or at least once a week by wearing a shower cap, t-shirt, towel, or anything that can double as a covering for your head to protect it from water damage.
